Orthopaedic Residency Program

MVP Physical Therapy is proud to announce that we offer an APTA credentialed Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency program in the Pacific Northwest.

This year long residency program is lead by nationally recognized experts and involves tried and true methods of instruction including classroom/labs, independent study and 1:1 mentoring in outpatient clinical settings.

For 2010 the classroom/lab component of the MVP Physical Therapy Orthopaedic Residency Program will be taught in Los Angeles, California (on the USC campus). The instruction will be broken down into two week long modules based on the following schedule:

Module #1: Lower Quarter Rehabilitation (July 18-July 24, 2010)

Module #2: Upper Quarter Rehabilitation (Sept 19-Sept 25, 2010)

The MVP residency program is designed to improve proficiency with the application of manual examination and treatment procedures and to assist physical therapists in preparing for the OCS examination.

The residency program integrates basic principles of psycho-therapy into physical therapy clinical practice, thus enabling participants to improve their effectiveness with physical therapy management of patients who have mental disorders co-existing with their physical disorders.

Residency course content is available to non-residents for the purporse of continuing education and professional developement on a space available basis. For more information including fees, course location and course modules please download the attached seminar brochure.

Module #1: Lower Quarter

Clinial Reasoning Integration: Examination, Evaluation & Diagnosis of the Lower Quarter

  • Review Lumbar Spine Procedures
  • Examination & Treatment Procedures for the Pelvic Girdle, Hip, Knee, Ankle & Foot
  • Rehabilitation of Common Lower Quarter Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Clinical Reasoning: Treatment Progression in a Collaborative Model

 

Module #2: Upper Quarter 

(Sept 19-Sept 25, 2010)

  • Review Lower Quarter procedures Fom Module One 
  • Physical Examination & Treatment Procedures for the Thoracic Spine, Ribs, Cervical Spine, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand
  • Rehabilitation of Upper Quarter Common Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Clinical Reasoning: Patient and Professional Education

CURRICULUM:

120 hours of didactic education
150 hours of 1:1 supervision while treating patients
1200 hours of clinical practice
